My vision for a blog began in 2015
Four years later it officially made its way out
after i made my private experience with sexual assault public.
which inspired my first piece.

one of the first people I opened up to prior was like me
a Somali Muslim womxn and a survivor too.
you’re a Phoenix she said.

the label she gave me helped me realize that i can literally rebirth my life.
again and again. i think it’s a universal metaphor for resilience.

and mimi? that’s my fav childhood nickname.

but it was the goal of my page
along with my social anxiety
that set me back the most from sharing a blog with you

I was always so scared about writing an about me
I didn’t really know what the purpose of this platform was
and didn’t wanna box myself in

It took some time for me to realize that because it’s my page
there are no rules
I get the chance to just freely create
I am also hard on myself about my “lack” of consistency posting on here
But i also think that it can just be a reminder to myself and others
That the fear of vulnerability or simply trying to practice your artistry
may make you struggle
to find inspiration
and put pen to paper

But that’s okay
Because i am on my own time
Making this thing up as I go — with you

So about me: You can call me mimi
I love music and telling stories through photography and film
but since i’m also very random
the content of this blog will always come as a surprise to us both.
heheheheh
Enjoy
